||||||||||
| Dear Conference Partipants/Interested Parties: Native Wholistic Specialists, Inc. is pleased to announce the Indigenous Psychology Conference: Warrior Spirit. The conference is scheduled for April 24 & 25,2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Nativo Lodge. The theme of the conference is "Warrior Spirit". Warrior spirit is the mental, physical, spiritual, and psychological state our warriors embraced when they protected and defended our people. It's the beauty, confidence, pride, and honor a warrior brings to our villages, homes, and communities. Warrior Spirit is displayed to nature, in the warrior's dress, horse, spear, bow and arrow, shield and war paint, these are weapons a warrior used to protect his people. Warrior Spirit is about a song, a dance, a prayer, and a ceremony a warrior learns to help his people. Warrior Spirit is about honesty, dignity, healing, and respect for yourself and others. Warrior Spirit is the spirit Indigenous mental health practitioners embrace to combat depression, anxiety, substance abuse, psychosis, abuse, and other mental health diagnosis of American Indian people. American Indians have come through many trying times and have survived. A fundamental reason for the survival of the people is because of the warrior spirit that dwells within them. Psychologist, social workers, psychiatrist, and other mental health therapist have to commit themselves to protecting and defending our people like our warriors who committed themselves to protecting and defending their people. Warrior Spirit is how we will survive in the future and maintain our language, culture, pride, honor, dignity, and respect for our people. Our Warrior Spirit is present and ever stronger today than days past. The target populations for the upcoming conference are community based mental health service providers, schools, hospitals, and organizations that provide mental health services to Native youth and families. Mental health service providers will benefit from conference by receiving services developed and designed from an Indian perspective that incorporate culture, language, history, values, and spiritual support into a comprehensive and holistic approach to healing. They also will benefit by receiving high-level consultation, assessment, evaluation, and research from qualified American Indian professionals with establish educational credentials and "hands on" experience in the Indian community.
